God Is…
We’re excited to begin a new devotional series called “God Is…” — a journey into the heart and character of God, as He has revealed Himself to us.
Every one of us carries a personal view of who God is. Some of that comes from Scripture, some from life experiences, and, if we’re honest, some from feelings and cultural influences. Over time, we piece together an understanding of God — but how closely does it align with who He actually is?
If we’re not careful, we can start forming a god of our own making — one who bends to our desires, affirms everything we want, and never challenges us. We may hear phrases like, “My god is a god of love. He wants me to be happy. He lets me do what feels right,” and they sound comforting. But often, those ideas are rooted in personal preference rather than biblical truth.
God is love — absolutely. But He is also holy, just, merciful, sovereign, jealous for our hearts, and uncompromising in His righteousness. He isn’t defined by our feelings or shaped by our comfort. He defines Himself in His Word, and invites us into relationship — not on our terms, but on His.
This series will help us examine not just what we believe about God, but why we believe it. Are we worshipping the God of the Bible — or a version we’ve created? Let’s allow Scripture to lead us. Let’s let the Holy Spirit refine our view. Let’s rediscover who God truly is — and surrender to Him fully.
Our journey
Earlier this summer, the women’s leadership team at Wildwood Calvary Chapel was given a simple yet powerful assignment: write a devotional on a topic of your choosing. As the submissions came in, a beautiful pattern began to emerge — one that only God Himself could orchestrate. Over and over again, the devotionals reflected His character, His power, His kindness, and His sovereignty. Without collaborating, these women wrote about who God is — because that’s what the Holy Spirit had impressed on each of their hearts.
And so, we knew, this wasn’t just a writing exercise. It was the beginning of something deeper.
Each post you’ll read in the coming weeks is a glimpse into how God has revealed Himself through His Word to real women walking in faith. You won’t find a god formed by culture or personal opinion here. You’ll find the God who has spoken for Himself.
He is love.
He is our defender.
He is righteous and just.
He is a refuge, a comforter, a protector.
He is truth.
We don’t have to fill in the blanks — we only need to take Him at His Word, trust what He’s said, and walk forward in faith.
We invite you to join us for this journey. New devotionals will be posted every Tuesday — each one a fresh revelation of who our God is, and how He still speaks today.
