God Is Our Mighty Hand

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.”
Proverbs 3:5–6

There have been many times in my life when these verses from Proverbs have carried me. I was raised in an Army family. If you had a problem, you found a solution and moved on. That might sound good on the surface, but in reality, it’s not always so great. We can’t always make the right decisions. We can’t always find the solution. But God can.

When we can’t see a way, He already has a plan. Even when a situation seems impossible, He will lead us. So, trust Him. Seek after Him.  My husband, Mike, is a hardworking, Jesus-loving, family-loving man. We met in high school and got married soon after. He is the love of my life. We’ve grown up together, and God has blessed us and continues to do so. But even in the blessings, we’ve faced trials.

A few years ago, Mike began having serious vision problems. It felt like every doctor’s appointment brought more bad news. He went through laser treatments, surgeries, procedures, and everything possible to stay ahead of the damage diabetes was causing to his eyes. It was rough and, honestly, really scary. At one point, following a surgery, Mike had no vision at all.

In that season, my recurring prayer was: “Trust in the Lord.” I tried to keep my mind fixed on God’s Word instead of the fear racing through my head. But my thoughts were spinning: What am I trusting in? What if Mike is blind? What if he can’t continue to work? How do we get through this, God? I don’t understand any of it.

I was caught in a full-on panic spiral, just hanging on for the ride. So I sought.
I prayed. I read. And in God’s Word, I found this:

“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17

Yes, He was in our midst. As I continued to seek Him, He quieted my heart with His love and reminded me: Trust. I didn’t need to have the answer because He already had the path. Seek Him. He will lead. He rejoices over us with singing.

The Lord our God Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is not distant. He is in our midst. He loves us so deeply that He rejoices over us, singing songs of joy and comfort. And because of that, we can sing too.

Mike’s vision journey has been a long one. But through every step, we’ve seen God’s hand at work. I didn’t need to understand everything I just needed to trust. Today, Mike’s vision is not only stable, it’s actually improved, surprising even his doctors. So if you’re walking through uncertainty, here’s my encouragement to you:

Trust in the Lord. He is with you. Right in your midst.

Give Him everything, every good thought, every fear, every concern, every blessing, every joy, and every anxious moment. Seek Him. He will lead you. He will guide you.
He will bless you.

Praise Him! And rejoice, He is singing over you.
